The Cisco wireless mesh network has four core components:
Cisco Aironet 1500 series mesh access points
Note
Cisco Aironet 1505 and 1510 mesh access points are not supported because of their 
End-of-Life status.
Cisco wireless LAN controller (hereafter referred to as controller)
Cisco WCS
Mesh software architecture
Note
From the 7.0.116.0 release and later releases, the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) is 
rebranded as the Cisco Network Control System (NCS).

Licensing for Mesh Access Points on a 5500 Series Controller
To use both mesh and nonmesh access points with a Cisco 5500 Series Controller, only the base license 
(LIC-CT5508-X) is required from the 7.0 release and later releases. For more information about 
obtaining and installing licenses, see Chapter 4 of the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration
