[HDD]
All contents on the HDD will be erased.

[RAM]
Some DVD-RAM are unformatted. You must format these discs 
before using them in this unit. Formatting also allows you to erase 
the entire contents of a disc.

The message 
“Formatting is 
complete” appears 
when formatting is 
finished.

All recordings are irretrievably erased when a disc is formatted. 
Ensure that there are no programmes to keep in the disc before 
formatting.

Note
≥Do not turn the unit off or disconnect the AC mains lead 

while the message “Formatting the disc” is on the TV.
This can render the disc unusable.
(This can take up to max. 1 minute (HDD)/max. 70 minutes 
(DVD-RAM). If it takes more than 2 minutes, you can cancel 
formatting by pressing [RETURN]. The disc must be reformatted 
if you do this.)

≥All data on the disc/HDD is erased when it is formatted, including 

recordings made with this unit and still pictures (JPEG). 
However, the data written by a computer are not erased.

For your reference
≥DVD-R and CD-R/RW cannot be formatted.

[RAM]
≥The disc cannot be formatted if the write protect tab (page 69) is 

switched to “PROTECT”. Release the protection to continue.

≥The message “Unable to format” appears when trying to format 

discs this unit cannot use.

[DVD-R]
After finalizing, the background (9 types) that will be displayed for the top 
menu on DVD video equipment can be selected.

≥If DVD-R recorded by other Panasonic recorder is finalized by this unit, 

the background may not be changed to the picture selected on “Top Menu”.

≥You can change the picture displayed on the Top Menu. (“Change thumbnail”, page 41)

[DVD-R]
After finalizing, the screen that will be displayed for the beginning on DVD video equipment can be 
selected.

[5] Use [

3, 4] to select desired item and press [ENTER].

≥When “Title 1” is selected, the “Top Menu” screen is not displayed, and it play from the 

beginning of the disk.

[DVD-R]
You can play DVD-R on compatible DVD players by finalizing them on this unit, effectively making 
them into DVD-Video.
The menu you create with this unit can also be used on the player.

[5] Select “Yes” with [

2] and press [ENTER].

[6] Select “Start” with [

2] and press [ENTER].

≥Finalizing starts.

The message “Finalizing is finished” appears when finalizing is finished.

Note
≥Do not turn the unit off or disconnect the AC mains lead while the message “Finalizing the Disc” is 

on the TV. This can render the disc unusable.

≥You can only finalize DVD-R that were recorded on this unit.
≥You cannot record on DVD-R that have been finalized.
≥Finalizing takes up to about 15 minutes.
≥The programme is paused for a few seconds at the joint between the programmes.
≥Programmes directly recorded on DVD-R, or programmes dubbed for 5 minutes or more in the 

mode except High Speed mode are divided as “Chapter” per about 5 minutes.

≥When dubbed in High Speed mode, markers and scene segments (play lists) are treated as 

chapter cutoff points.
