MAINTENANCE
Maintenance
The ignition lead should always be removed from the spark
plug before repair, cleaning or maintenance work.
Air filter
The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust and dirt
in order to avoid:
Carburettor malfunctions
Starting problems
Loss of engine power
Unnecessary wear to engine parts.
Excessive fuel consumption.
An air filter that has been in use for a long time cannot be
cleaned completely. The filter must therefore be replaced with
a new one at regular intervals. A damaged air filter must
always be replaced.
Cleaning the air filter
M48
Remove the screws holding the air filter. Take care when
lifting out the air filter so that dirt does not fall down into the
carburettor.
Lift off the cover and remove the air duct.
Remove the air filter and check that it is undamaged. Replace
with a new air filter if you believe it to be defective.
Wash the filter with a liquid cleaning agent and water. After
cleaning the filter should be oiled using engine oil.
Proceed as follows:
Put the filter in a plastic bag and pour in new and clean
engine oil.
Knead the plastic bag to distribute the oil equally in the
filter.
Squeeze excess oil from the filter into the plastic bag.
Fit the filter in the filter cover; make sure the edge of the filter
comes out to the edge of the cover and forms a protective
seal.
Replace the air duct and fit the cover.
Secure the air filter on the carburettor with the screws.
