INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your pur
chase of Energy speakers! Pr
oprietary
technology and high quality manufacturing will allow you to enjoy the most
natural and accurate music r
epr
oduction for many years. The advice of
fer
ed
in this manual is aimed at helping you maximize and maintain peak
performance, and ther
efor
e, your listening satisfaction.  Please take the time
to r
ead all of the instructions contained in this manual to make certain your
system is pr
operly installed and functioning corr
ectly
.
BREAK-IN PERIOD
W
e
 str
ongly advise that you r
esist the temptation to play the Energy
speakers to their full capabilities until they have been pr
operly br
oken in.
This pr
ocess should last appr
oximately 50 to 100 hours of music playback.
This can be easily be done by putting your compact disc player on Repeat
mode, while playing a CD with a wide dynamic range at average r
oom
volume listening levels.
THE ENERGY STOR
Y
Energy is a division of Audio Pr
oducts Inter
national Corp., known
thr
oughout the industry as “API”. A Canadian company founded in 1975,
The API factory is a moder
n 165,000 squar
e foot r
esear
ch, development
and manufacturing facility located in T
o
ronto, Canada. API is one of the
largest speaker manufactur
ers in the world, distributing pr
oducts to over 60
countries worldwide. A talented r
esear
ch and development team utilizes
advanced computer
-based design and sophisticated measur
ement
techniques in its ongoing quest for new and better acoustic technologies.
This r
esear
ch is based upon the years of pioneering psycho-acoustic
resear
ch developed in conjunction with the Canadian “National Resear
ch
Council” (NRC), to cr
eate speakers that achieve high performance in typical
home listening envir
onments. Extensive r
esear
ch into every aspect of the
speaker is analyzed and evaluated befor
e the design stage begins, a
concept that we r
efer to as a holistic design appr
oach. This method
guarantees that the finest components and materials ar
e made and tested
with sophisticated manufacturing and quality contr
ol techniques to ensur
e
exceptional performance that is superior to speakers costing several times
their price.
AMPLIFIER REQUIREMENTS
All Energy speakers ar
e designed to be extr
emely ef
ficient. The T
empest II is
designed to be 8 ohm compatible allowing playback on almost any
amplifier or r
eceiver on the market.  Most amplifiers with a power rating of
20-100 watts per channel will ef
fectively operate the Energy T
empest II
speakers.
W
a
rning: If an amplifier or r
eceiver is over
-driven, the r
esulting
distortion is actually many times gr
eater than its rated power
.  Over
-
driven amplifier distortion is called “Clipping”, easily identified by its
fuzzy
, distorted sound, and can damage any speaker
.  The volume
contr
ol of most amplifiers and r
eceivers is a logarithmic type, which
means that full power may be r
eached with the volume contr
ol set
at as little as the halfway point.  Operating the loudness, tr
eble, or
bass contr
ols incr
eases power output well beyond rated levels.  The
warranty on your speakers is ther
efor
e void if the voice coils ar
e
bur
ned or damaged as a r
e
sult of overpowering or clipping.
CABINET CARE
Gr
eat car
e and craftsmanship have gone into the construction and finish of
the cabinet.  Periodically use a soft, dry cloth to r
emove dust or fingerprints.
Do not use paper towel or other abrasive materials as it may damage the
finish.
SPEAKER CONNECTIONS
Caution:  * T
u
rn
 of
f all power in your audio/video system befor
e
pr
oceeding with your installation. Not doing so could r
esult in
potential damage to the system.
CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS
On the r
ear of your Energy T
empest II speakers ar
e r
ed and black
connectors. Using standar
d speaker wir
e, connect the speakers one at a
time, and start your pr
ocess at the Receiver
. Connect the speaker wir
e fr
om
the positive (RED +) terminal on the r
eceiver to the positive (RED+) terminal
on the speaker
. Connect the negative (BLACK-) terminal on the r
eceiver to
the negative (BLACK-) terminal on the speaker
. T
o
 connect the wir
e to the
speaker
, completely push the appr
opriate terminal in, and insert the wir
e
thr
ough the hole that appears on the stem of the gold plated terminal.
Release the terminal and the inter
nal springs will hold the wir
e in place.
Repeat for the other terminal.
Do this one speaker at a time until your speakers ar
e connected pr
operly
. Be
car
eful to corr
ectly match positive and negative, as well as the corr
ect
speaker to the corr
ect channel.
NOTE: If you inadvertently r
everse one of the connections (i.e, r
ed to
black), you will notice a sever
e lack of bass fr
om your system. This is
called wiring the system “Out of Phase”. If this occurs, check the
wiring and r
e-connect as necessary
.
MOUNTING THE SPEAKERS
To
mount the speaker find a secur
e mounting location that is not in dir
ect
exposur
e to the elements, such as rain, high winds, or sunlight. The
speakers ar
e weather r
esistant but ar
e not designed to be dir
ectly exposed
to rain or submerged under water
. The speaker bracket needs to be
mounted to a secur
e location, it is advisable to mount the bracket to a solid
wall surface, wall stud, or brick. Mounting to aluminum siding, or
eavestr
oughs for example will not pr
ovide adequate str
ength to safely hold
the speaker
. Use the appr
opriate har
dwar
e necessary to secur
ely hold the
speakers weight of r
oughly 9 pounds. The bracket attaches to the speaker
using the two large thr
eaded knobs. Befor
e adjusting the angle of the
speaker
, make sur
e you loosen the knobs thr
ee or four tur
ns until the teeth
ar
e separated. Point the speaker towar
ds the seating ar
ea, and then tighten
both knobs hand tight only
. If you ar
e not confident about the mounting
pr
ocedur
es, please contact your authorized Energy r
etailer for assistance.
