You can transfer a file in-band under the following conditions:

•

You can dial in to the BCC port of a router that you choose as source or 
destination for a file transfer.

•

An operational IP routing path exists through your network between the file 
source (a router or a remote workstation) and the file destination (also a router 
or a remote workstation).

Out-of-band file transfers can be useful for router diagnosis and management. You 
can use this method under the following conditions:

•

You can dial in to the console port of a router that you choose as the source or 
destination for a file transfer operation.

•

All IP routing paths between the file source and the file destination are down 
(nonoperational).

You can use a remote PC or UNIX workstation to transfer files in-band or 
out-of-band. 

The 

 command invokes the TFTP software to transfer a file between a Nortel 

Networks router and another router or host.  

To use TFTP, you must load it on the router and enable it (see Configuring IP 
Services for the Versalar Switch Router 15000 for instructions). 

You cannot use 

 or 

 client to transfer files to or from the 

router; you must use 

 or 

 server.

The destination system in a file transfer overwrites any file already 

on its volume that has the same file name. If enough space does not exist on the 
file system for the new file, and the new file has the same name as an old file, 
the old file will be destroyed and the new file will be corrupted. Be sure to 
follow the instructions in this section to avoid corrupting the config file.
