Problems with the Printer
This section includes:
If you encounter a problem with your printer, use the following table to troubleshoot and fix the 
problem. For additional troubleshooting information, see 
Warning:
Never open or remove printer covers that are secured with screws unless specifically 
instructed to do so in the manual. A high voltage component can cause electric shock. Do not try to 
alter the printer configuration or modify any parts. An unauthorized modification can cause smoke 
or fire.
Caution:
Probable causes of trouble are that the printer, computer, server or other hardware is not 
correctly set for the network environment you are using, or a printer restriction has been exceeded.
General Printer Problems
Symptom
Cause
Solution
No power to the printer.
The power cord is not correctly 
plugged into the outlet.
Turn off the printer if on, confirm 
that the power cord is correctly 
plugged in, then turn on the printer.
Something is wrong with the outlet 
connected to the printer.
Plug another electrical device into 
the outlet and see whether it 
operates properly.
The power switch is not correctly 
turned on.
Turn off the printer, then turn on 
the printer.
The printer is connected to an 
outlet with a voltage or frequency 
that does not match the printer 
specifications.
Use a power source with the 
specifications listed in 
The control panel displays the 
Toner Low message much 
sooner than expected.
One of the toner cartridges may be 
defective.
Remove the toner cartridges and 
inspect them for damage. Replace 
any that are damaged.
Printed with heavy toner coverage.
Check the paper specifications to 
ensure you are using the correct 
type. See 
page 56. Also check that you are 
using Xerox-approved toner.
