What Happens When Toner Meets Paper
How toner interacts with a paper’s surface directly influences how
ideas are translated into the tones and values that make up an
image. This section takes a look at the how toner, paper properties
and the optical characteristics of paper impart certain qualities in
finished documents.

When toner meets paper
Toner is a dry powder used in xerographic processes that is heat-
fused onto paper fibers. Fusing permanently adheres the toner so
that it won’t flake, scratch or peel. Rough paper stocks may be less
desirable for xerographic use as their texture may prevent toner
from adhering to the paper’s surface.
