Bi-Directional Communication Dialog
Box
Appears when you click the Bi-Directional Setup button on the 
.
Use this dialog box to enable bi-directional communication. When enabled, the driver
receives status information from the printer and displays information about the jobs,
trays, supplies, installed options, and problems.
• Communication: Select Automatic (Recommended) to enable bi-directional
communication, Manual to enable bi-directional communication and change the
settings, or Off to disable communication from the printer.
• Device Name or TCP/IP Address: Displays the name of the device or its TCP/IP
address when your computer is connected to the device over a network.

• Refresh Rate: Select the frequency that the status information is polled and
updated (in minutes).
• Job Notification: Select On if you want to receive notifications from the printer
about the status of your print jobs. Select the type of job notification from the
Notification menu that is available when you click More Status at the bottom
of the print driver window.
Installable Options Dialog Box
Appears when you click the Installable Options button on the 
.
Use this dialog box to select the options that are installed on your printer.
• <option drop-down lists>: For some options, select either Installed or Not Installed.
For options such as paper trays, select the total number of trays. For options such
as a finisher, select Not Installed or the type of finisher from those available for
your printer. See the user documentation for your printer for more information
about the available options.

If your printer is on a network and bi-directional communication is enabled, the
correct options should already be selected.
