System operators or engineers who upgrade the DBDS system to SR 2.5 or SR 3.5 

need the following skills: 
• 

Advanced knowledge of UNIX  
– 

Experience with the UNIX vi editor. Several times throughout the system 

upgrade process system files are edited using the UNIX vi editor. The UNIX vi 

editor is not intuitive. The instructions provided in this guide are no substitute 

for an advanced working knowledge of vi.  

– 

The ability to review and edit cron files 

• 

Extensive DBDS system expertise  
– 

The ability to identify keyfiles that are unique to the site being upgraded 

– 

The ability to add and remove user accounts 

Before beginning the UniPack upgrade to SR 2.5 or SR 3.5, be sure that the site you 

are upgrading meets these requirements: 
• 

SR 2.2 or SR 3.2, or SR 2.4 or SR 3.4 is currently installed on your system. 

• 

You have the CD labeled DBDS Maintenance CD 2.1.x in order to complete the 

required backups of the database and the filesystem. 
Note:  The DBDS Maintenance CD replaces Backup/Restore Floppy 5.0.x, as well 

as earlier versions of the DBDS Maintenance CD. You cannot use the floppy disk 

to back up your system components. 

• 

The system must support one of the following combinations of Cisco Resident 

Application (SARA) and PowerTV operating system code: 
– 

SARA 1.54 and OS 3.10 

– 

SARA 1.43.5a3 and OS 3.3.4.1008 

• 

The latest version of DBDS Utilities is installed on your system. 

• 

You have the CD labeled similarly to updatebfselement.sh. 
Note:  This CD contains a script that updates the bfselement table in the database. 

You will run the script in Chapter 4. 

• 

Sites that are upgrading a Sun Fire V880 DNCS need a special cable with which to 

connect to the UniPack. Specific information for the cable follows:
