About This Guide
Introduction
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for upgrading a Cisco Digital
Broadband Delivery System (DBDS) to System Release (SR) 2.5 or SR 3.5. Sites that
use this guide to upgrade must currently support one of the following system
releases:
•
SR 2.2 or SR 3.2
•
SR 2.4 or SR 3.4
What’s New in SR 2.5 and SR 3.5
SR 2.5 and SR 3.5 provide support for the Remote Network Control Server (RNCS)
component of a Cisco Digital Broadband Delivery System (DBDS). The RNCS is a
needed component in a Regional Control System (RCS) that uses the DNCS to
manage remote headends.
SR 2.5 and SR 3.5 UniPack Features Live Upgrade
Cisco introduces the Live Upgrade with the SR 2.5 and SR 3.5 UniPack. Through use
of the Live Upgrade, engineers can upgrade an Enterprise 450 and Sun Fire V880
server without having to shut down the system processes until activation of the new
system software.
How Long to Complete the Upgrade?
The upgrade to SR 2.5 or SR 3.5 is to be completed from within a maintenance
window that usually begins at midnight. Cisco engineers have determined that a
typical site can be upgraded within one maintenance window. The maintenance
window should begin when you stop system components in Chapter 2
System Performance Impact
Staging, third-party applications, video-on-demand (VOD), anything-on-demand
(xOD), and interactive services, such as impulse pay-per-view (IPPV), will not be
available during the maintenance window.
Audience
This guide provides Cisco field service engineers with instructions for upgrading an
existing DBDS to SR 2.5 and SR 3.5.
