SR 2.5 and SR 3.5 UniPack Pre-Upgrade Procedures

The upgrade scripts on the SR 2.5 and SR 3.5 UniPack do not back up the DNCS or 

Application Server file systems. Prior to beginning the upgrade, back up the file 

systems manually. The following procedures provide instructions on backing up the 

file systems of the Application Server and the DNCS.  
Important:  Repeat these procedures two times: once for the DNCS and then again 

for the Application Server. 
Note:  These are the same file system backup procedures that are contained in DBDS 

and SR 4.0, part number 4011040. 

Follow this procedure to prepare for the DNCS or Application Server file system 

backup. 

 

1. 

 

Are you backing up an Enterprise 450 or Sun Fire 880 DNCS? 
• 

If yes, check the dncs and root user e-mail accounts on the DNCS for the 

presence of metadevice errors. 
Note:  Correct any metadevice errors before proceeding with the backup. 

Contact Cisco Services if you need help in correcting metadevice errors. 

• 

If no, go to step 2. 

2. 

 

If necessary, open an xterm window on the DNCS or Application Server, 

whichever server you are backing up. 

3. 

 

Type su  - and then press Enter to log in as root user. 
Note:  Be sure to type the single dash after typing su. 
Result:  The password prompt appears. 

4. 

 

Type the root password and then press Enter. 

5. 

 

Insert the CD labeled DBDS Maintenance CD 2.1.x into the CD drive of the 

DNCS or the Application Server, whichever server you are backing up. 

6. 

 

Type df  -n and then press Enter. 
Result:  A list of the mounted filesystems appears. 
Note:  The presence of /cdrom in the output confirms that the system 

correctly mounted the CD.
