In this section, you will install the Solaris OS and DNCS software packages onto the 

Enterprise 250 DNCS or the Sun Fire V880 DNCS. 

Follow these instructions to prepare for the installation of the Enterprise 250 DNCS 

software. 
Notes:  If you have followed the procedures of these upgrade instructions in order, 

the following conditions are true: 
• 

All system components have been shut down. 

• 

The DNCS is displaying the CDE window. 

• 

The DBDS Maintenance CD should still be in the CD drive of the DNCS.

Log into the CDE of the DNCS as root user. 

2. 

 

Follow these instructions to open a terminal window on the DNCS. 
a)  Right click on the DNCS desktop. 

Result:  The Workspace menu appears. 

b)  Select Programs. 

Result:  The Programs menu appears. 

c)  Select Terminal.

Cisco recommends that you maximize the terminal window so that you can 

easily view all of the messages that will appear later in the terminal 

window. 

• 

Since you have logged in to the CDE as root user, you will have root 

permissions in the terminal window.
