Configuration Management Service (CMS)
In integrated environments, the Configuration Management Service (CMS) coordinates the
configuration of objects common to both the system software and to application instances. CMS
also authenticates agents when they log in. Common objects are stored both in the application
instance local database (awdb) and the Unified ICM central database. The copy of the data in
the Unified ICM central database is used for integrated reporting and for authentication of
agents. The copies of the data in the application instance databases are used for application
specific reporting and for application operation.
CMS includes the following components:
A set of client libraries that reside on the application instance system and are called by the
application.
A service process that runs on a Unified ICM Administration & Data Server.
The server process reads configuration data from the local database (awdb) and writes
configuration data to Unified ICM via the Central Controller API (ConAPI).
The CMS client library communicates with the CMS server process using point-to-point
communications. The ConAPI is exposed on the CMS client.
The following figure shows the CMS integrated architecture.

There might be multiple CMS services in a global Unified ICM system, just as there might be
multiple Administration & Data Servers in a Unified ICM system.
