Choose whether to convert 96 kHz LPCM signals to 48 kHz/16

Choose whether to output Dolby Digital bitstream signals for 
decoding on other equipment or to convert them to PCM

° Set “Dolby Digital” to “PCM”, “DTS” to “Off” and “MPEG” to 
“PCM” if the other equipment doesn’t have decoders. Incorrect 
settings can cause noise to be output which can be harmful to 
your ears and speakers, and audio will not be recorded properly 
to digital recording equipment.
Audio Mode for XP Recording
Choose the audio type when recording with XP mode.

≥Even if “LPCM” is set, sound becomes “Dolby Digital” in 
recording mode other than XP mode.
Audio Mode for DV Input
You can select the kind of sound when recording from the unit’s DV 
terminal. (page 49)

Fine
Pictures become clear and vivid. Normally, use this 
setting.
Normal
Select it when recording noisy pictures.
Automatic
The unit automatically switches resolution during 
recording according to the image. The unit reduces 
block noise, which occurs during MPEG 
compression, by selecting the optimum rate. 
Fixed
The resolution is fixed to ensure the resolution rate 
is not reduced.
Field
Still pictures are less blurred. Select if jittering 
occurs when “Automatic” is selected.
Frame
Sharper frame stills are obtained. Select if small text 
or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when 
“Automatic” is selected.
On
The scenes in play lists created with this unit are 
played seamlessly. This may cause shifting of the 
points where scenes change. Some play lists 
cannot be played seamlessly.
≥Seamless Play does not work with programmes 
recorded in different audio or when using Quick 
View.
Off
The points where scenes in play lists are played 
accurately, but this may cause the picture to freeze 
for a moment when scenes change.
Bitstream
When you have connected a unit with a built-in 
Dolby Digital decoder.
PCM
When you have connected a unit that doesn’t have 
a built-in Dolby Digital decoder.

Off
When you have connected a unit that doesn’t have 
a built-in DTS decoder.
°
Bitstream
When you have connected a unit with a built-in DTS 
decoder.
Bitstream
When you have connected a unit with a built-in 
MPEG decoder.
PCM
When you have connected a unit that doesn’t have 
a built-in MPEG decoder.

Stereo 1
Records sound (L1, R1) when DV recording is 
taking place.
Stereo 2
Records added sound such as narration (L2, R2) 
subsequent to original recording.
Mix
Records both Stereo 1 and Stereo 2.
≥L1iL2 are recorded in L and R1iR2 are 
recorded in R. In the case of bilingual broadcast, 
Stereo 1 is recorded when recording to DVD-R or 
if recording in LPCM. Details of recording are 
given in “Bilingual Audio Selection” (See above).
