7.5 Voltage-controlled frequency setting (VCF)
The output frequency of the generator can also be set by applying an external voltage up to 10 V in the
shape of a fixed or variable direct or alternate voltage.
The different voltage types are described in the following chapters.
By applying an external voltage in a range from 0 to 10 V at the VCF input (5), you can change the out-
put frequency at a ratio of at most 5:1. However, this depends on the respective setting of the frequency
range switch (13).
When applying an external direct voltage on the VCF socket, you must observe the polarity “+” inside.
The output frequency increases by applying a voltage. However, you can only set the maximum fre-
quency of the selected range.
If e.g. the range “1M” is set and the knob „FREQUENCY”
is set to „MIN“ position and if there is no voltage on the
VCF input, the generator display shows approx. 50 Hz.
If you now apply a direct voltage on the VCF input (5)
and slowly increase this up to 10 VDC, a frequency of
approx. 2 MHz is finally displayed at 10 VDC. An addi-
tional adjustment of the knob „FREQUENCY” does not
result in additional frequency increases.
On the generator, push the switch “1K” in the field „FREQUENCY RANGE“. Twist the knob „FREQUENCY“
until 20 Hz is displayed. For further adjustment or increasing the frequency on the output (7), all you have to do
is apply a voltage in a range from 0 to 10 V at the „VCF IN“ input (5).
Slowly increase the voltage up to 10V, e.g. on an adjustable mains appliance. The frequency on the
generator output changes proportionally with the VCF input voltage.
If the knob “FREQUENCY” is already in the MAX range, only very small voltage-controlled frequency
changes are possible.
Never exceed the max. input parameters, neither on the VCF input nor on the fre-
quency counter input, and do not cause a short circuit on the generator outputs
“TTL/CMOS-OUT” and “OUTPUT”. Otherwise you may damage or destroy the fre-
quency generator.
Danger of a mortal electric shock when exceeding the max. input parameters or
coming into contact with voltages in excess of 25 VAC or 35 VDC.
