10. DCF RECEPTION
The DCF signal is a signal that is sent by a
transmitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt on
the Main). Its range is up to 1500 km and if
transmission conditions are ideal even up to
2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the
precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second
in a million years!) and the date.
This means you do not have to switch manually
between daylight savings time and normal time
at the weather station; the time is adjusted
automatically.
For summer time, "DST" is displayed to the right of the time (= "Daylight Saving
Time" = summer time).
The first DCF reception attempt is performed (icon "
" flashes in the lower right
of the display if a DCF signal is recognised) if you have inserted batteries in the
weather station and the weather station has completed search for the outdoor
sensors after 5 minutes.
(
Search for the DCF signal and its evaluation will take at least 5 minutes. Do
not move the weather station during this time and do not press any buttons.
More reception attempt are performed at 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.. A single
successful reception per day will keep the deviation of the quartz clock in the weather
station below a second.
If no correct time is displayed at initial commissioning even after 10 minutes due to
reception problems, start a new reception attempt. Either briefly press the button
"RESET" (15) on the rear of the weather station or remove the two batteries for a
few seconds.
(
If no DCF reception is possible at the weather station setup site, set the
time manually; see chapter 11. a).
