Example
PAP Authentication
Configuration requirements
As shown in Figure 35, Router1 and Router2 are interconnected through the
interface Serial3/0/0, and Router1 (authenticator) is required to authenticate
Router2 (requester) with the PAP approach.
Networking diagram

Configuration procedure
Configure Router1:
[3Com]local-user Router1 password simple 3Com
[3Com]interface serial 3/0/0
[3Com-Serial3/0/0]ppp authentication-mode pap
Configure Router2:
[3Com]interface serial 3/0/0
[3Com-Serial3/0/0]ppp pap local-user Router2 password simple 3Com
CHAP Authentication
Configuration requirements
In Figure 35, Router1 is required to authenticate Router2 in CHAP mode.
Configuration procedure
Configure Router1:
[3Com]local-user Router2 password simple hello
[3Com]interface serial 3/0/0
[3Com-Serial3/0/0]ppp chap user Router1
[3Com-Serial3/0/0]ppp authentication-mode chap
Configure Router2:
[3Com]local-user Router1 password simple hello

MP Configuration
Configuration requirements
In Figure 36, two B channels on the E1 interface of Router A are bundled onto the
B channels of Router B, with the other two B channels bundled on Router C, in
authentication binding mode. Suppose the interface names of four B channels on
Router A are Serial2/0/0:1, Serial2/0/0:2, Serial2/0/0:3 and Serial2/0/0:4; the
interface names of two B channels on Router B are Serial2/0/0:1 and Serial2/0/0:2;
