48 Chapter 3 Installing XFPs

This section describes how to install and remove XFPs.

The XFP installation is similar to the LC type SFPs.

To install an XFP:

Remove the port dust cover or electromagnetic interference (EMI) plug from 
the module. Save the dust cover or EMI plug for future use.

Remove the XFP from its protective packaging.

Verify that the XFP is the correct model for your network configuration (see 

Grasp the XFP between your thumb and forefinger.

Insert the XFP into the XFP slot on the module (see 

).

Apply a light pressure to the XFP until the device clicks and locks into 
position in the module.

Note: GBICs, XFPs, and SFPs are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. 
If the GBIC, XFP, or SFP resists pressure, do not force it; turn it over, 
and reinsert it.
