Emergency Planning Floor Plan

Use the following guidelines when drawing an emergency
floor plan for the homeowner:

Show all building levels.

❑

Show exits from each room (2 exits per room are recom-
mended).

❑

Show the locations of all security system components.

❑

Show the locations of any fire extinguishers.

NOTE: Do not install smoke detectors where normal ambient t emperatures are above

100°F or b elow 40°F. A lso, d o not locate d etectors in front of AC/ H eat

registers o r other lo cations where normal air circulatio n will keep smoke

fr om e n terin g t he de t ect or.

than o ne sleepin g area, locate a

smoke detector at each area.

NOTE: Ceiling-mounted smoke detectors should be lo cated in the center of t he room

o r hall, or not less than 4 inches from t he wall. When t he detector is mounted

o n the wall, t he top o f the detector should be 4 t o 12 inches from t he ceiling.
