In MPC60 version 1 or 2 SEQ files, notes in drum tracks were
assigned to one of 32 pad names (
HIHT
-
DR16
). In MPC3000 se-
quences, notes in drum tracks are assigned not to pad numbers, but
rather to one of 64 MIDI note numbers (35-98). Therefore, all drum
notes in MPC60 version 1 or 2 SEQ files must be converted from pad
assignments to note number assignments. This is done using the
conversion table in the screen above. The conversion table consists
of two fields:
• The
MPC60 pad
 field:
Select an MPC60 pad name in this field (
HIHT
SNR1
,
SNR2
, etc.) For convenience, the pad number is shown to
the right .
• The
Becomes note
 field:
This field shows the note number currently assigned to the
MPC60 pad name shown in the field above. There is a
unique note number assigned to each of the 32 MPC60 pad
names. To change the note number assignment, edit the
contents of this field. For help in deciding which note num-
ber to use, the General MIDI instrument assignment for the
displayed note number is shown to the right.
It is not necessary to edit the table. Your MPC60 sequence will load
and play just fine if you press
<Load it>
 without editing the
table. The only reason to edit the table is if you want the note
number assignments of the notes in the sequence’s drum tracks to
correspond to specific instruments. By default, MPC60 pad names
will be translated to General MIDI note numbers having the same
instrument name. For example, all notes assigned to the MPC60
pad BASS will be translated by default to note number 36, which
has a General MIDI assignment of Bass drum 1. It is desirable to
use General MIDI note number assignments because this is the
standard for instrument note number assignments played over
MIDI.
This conversion table is also used to convert MPC60 SET or ST1
files, in which case the sound assignments are converted from pad
numbers to note numbers. If you modify the conversion table, make
