Chapter 3  MeetingPlace Web Concepts and Functions 19
The MeetingPlace Web server can be located in the server
room for redundant power backup.
Increased Network Security
Another benefit of MeetingPlace Web is increased network
security when conducting web conferences with those outside
your organization. Since the web conference server provides a
central point of connection, you only need to provide inbound
network access to one server rather than to all desktops in your
organization.
MeetingPlace Web may also be installed on a server deployed in
a publicly accessible network, such as in a DMZ for external
users outside your organization’s firewall. You may select to
provide both internal and external access on the same Windows
server.
Without the web conference server, the number of ports opened
on your organization’s firewall would depend on the number of
inside participants attending web conferences with those outside
the company (one port for each outside participant). For more
information on the impact of web conferencing on your network,
refer to Network Bandwidth Considerations on page 86.
In addition, the MeetingPlace Web server supports secure socket
layer (SSL), which enables the server to send and receive
encrypted data over your network. For additional information,
refer to page 190.
About MeetingPlace Web
MeetingPlace Web is Windows-based software installed on a
Web server that is configured for Microsoft Internet Information
Server (IIS). Once this software is installed, it becomes the
MeetingPlace Web server that provides users with web
conferencing capability.
On a stable and secure network, the MeetingPlace Web server is
virtually maintenance-free.
