momentary foot switch with a 2-conductor 1/4” connector is used for the Soft Pedal
function of the DG8. A momentary footswitch with a 3-conductor 1/4” connector is
used for the Sustain/Sostenuto functions of the DG8. “Momentary” means that it is a
spring-loaded switch that operates by “pressing and releasing” for on (press) or off
(release) signals.
If you use a footswitch with a 2-conductor connector for Sustain/
Sostenuto, the Sostenuto function will NOT operate.
Potentiometer foot pedals with 2-conductor connectors are used for volume and
modulation. “Potentiometer” means that the pedal mechanically operates an internal
knob
(technically known as a potentiometer) giving you “more” or “less” rather than
“on” or “off” like a switch. These pedals are often referred to as “rocker pedals”.
The diagram below shows what the right kind of connector looks if you want to
purchase footpedals, or if you need a pedal that is different from the one shipped
with the DG8.
Plug the pedals into the DG8’s back panel jacks. Each jack is labeled so that you’ll
know which pedal or switch performs which function.
For the volume or modulation pedal, use the
AUX
jack. Note that the DG8 must be set
to perform either volume control or modulation, not both. To select the operation of
the pedal, press the
MIDI
button on the front panel repeatedly until
AUX Pedal
appears the in the display. Use the

arrows to select between
Modulation
 or
Volume
. Press the
PLAY
button to confirm your choice and return the DG8 back to
Play mode.
