4. Making a Local Connection for Network Configuration
Make a local connection to the OnSite to enable configuration of a static IP address as follows:

Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the Local User ports as described in “To Connect to the 
Local User Ports” on page 4.

To Connect a Terminal or Computer to the Console Port
Perform the following steps to connect a terminal or a computer to the console port of the OnSite. An RJ-
45 to DB-9 crossover cable is included. Be sure whatever cable you use is a CAT 5 or greater crossover 
cable.
1. Connect the RJ-45 end of the cable to the console port on the OnSite.
2. If connecting to a computer or terminal with a DB-9 male port, connect the DB-9 female end of the 
cable to the DB-9 port.
3. If connecting to a computer or terminal with a USB port, connect the DB-9 female end of the cable to 
the DB-9 male end of the USB converter, and connect the USB end of the converter to the terminal or 
computer.

To Connect to the Local User Ports
Connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the Local User ports on the right back of the OnSite.
1. Plug the monitor, keyboard, and mouse cables into the Keyboard, Video and Mouse connectors on the 
AlterPath OnSite.
5. Powering On the OnSite and Connected Devices
1. Make sure the OnSite’s power switch is off before plugging in the power cord and plugging the other 
end into an appropriate grounded power source.
2. Turn the OnSite’s power switch on. 
3. Turn on the power switches of the connected servers and devices.
6. Enabling Access to the Web Manager
Perform one of the procedures in this section to enable a remote administrator to finish configuration using 
the Web Manager. See Table 1-1, “Methods for Enabling Web Manager Access,” on page 3 for details 
about each method.
Configuring Basic Networking Using the wiz Command
This procedure requires a terminal or a computer that has a terminal emulation program to be physically 
connected to the console port of the OnSite. See “To Connect a Terminal or Computer to the Console Port” 
on page 4
