Removing and Installing a Port Adapter
This section describes how to remove and install a port adapter into a 7300-CC-PA. It includes the
following sections:
Guidelines
This section describes the correct procedures to avoid unnecessary board failures. Follow these
guidelines when removing and installing a port adapter in a 7300-CC-PA:
Because individual port adapters do not support OIR, you must first remove the 7300-CC-PA before
removing or installing a port adapter. Refer to the
if you have not already removed the 7300-CC-PA.
Handle port adapters by the carrier edges and handle; never touch the board or any connector pins.
(See
.)

Handling a Port Adapter
Insert a blank port adapter into an unused 7300-CC-PA port adapter slot. Use a blank port adapter
to fill the empty slot to allow the router to conform to EMI emissions requirements and to allow
proper airflow through the router. Do not install an empty 7300-CC-PA (one that does not contain a
port adapter) in a router.
No OIR for Port Adapters
OIR of a port adapter installed in a 7300-CC-PA is not allowed. It is not possible to remove a port adapter
from a 7300-CC-PA that is installed in a Cisco 7304 router. The port adapter lock cannot be moved to
its unlocked and vertical position until the 7300-CC-PA is removed from the router.
