Í To Add a Filter Using the Monitor
If protocol monitoring has been enabled, once you select the add 
command, the current monitor table will be displayed. To select a moni-
tored protocol:
1.
Enter the number displayed at the start of each line of the monitor 
display.
2.
If the monitored protocol was un-recognized and was not given a 
name, you will be prompted to assign a name.
3.
You will be prompted for the action to take when the protocol is 
encountered. Enter one of the actions described under the default 
setting above, with the exception of “Off”.
ÍTo Add a Filter Manually:
To start adding a filter manually:
1.
Enter the add command and give the filter a name that does not start 
with a number and does not match one of the pre-defined names.
2.
You will be prompted for the action to take when the protocol is 
encountered. Enter one of the actions described under the default 
setting. You may also enter the value log, which if chosen, the 
packet is not filtered, and the contents of the data portion of the 
packet are displayed in an information log. See “Length of Data Dis-
played in Log Action (Length)”
. If you choose the action 
high_priority then packets that match the filter will be placed on a 
special queue and will be transmitted before lower priority packets.
3.
Choose whether the protocol is defined by an Ethernet protocol 
identifier or by an LLC header.
If you type “protocol”: 
a.
The following prompt appears:
Enter a value in hex from 200h to ffffh :
b.
Type the value for the protocol identifier to be filtered and press 
ENTER.
