Previous versions of CAD must be uninstalled before installing CAD 7.1. You can 
back up your configuration data using the various CAD backup and restore utilities 
before you uninstall the old version of CAD, and then restore the data to CAD 7.1 
during the installation process.

You can upgrade CAD 7.1 to a newer version of CAD 7.1 by installing the newer 
version over the older version. In this situation, it is not necessary to back up and 
restore your configuration data. That is done automatically during the upgrade.

NOTE:  It is recommended that you upgrade the CAD services only 
when no CAD users (agents, supervisors, and administrators) are 
logged into the system. If users are logged in, they may receive error 
messages when the services go offline during the upgrade.

NOTE:  In CAD 7.1, reason codes are entered and maintained in 
ICM. Any reason codes that you created using Desktop 
Administrator in previous versions of CAD will be lost in an upgrade. 
We recommend that you note all CAD-created reason codes and 
create them in ICM in order to continue using them in CAD 7.1.

The backup and restore utilities used in the following upgrade procedures are 
described in detail in the section 

NOTE:  You must use the utilities from the Installation disks of the 
version you are backing up. For example, if you are upgrading from 
CAD 6.0 to CAD 7.1, you use the utilities on your CAD 6.0 
installation disk, not those on the CAD 7.1 installation disk.

If you have any CAD hot fixes or service releases for previous versions installed, 
uninstall them before upgrading to CAD 7.1. They can be identified by their listing in 
the Add/Remove Programs utility in Windows Control Panel. The listing follows the 
format:
