Using Applications
Launching an application
You can tap the application directly or rotate
the Jog Dial to highlight it, then press the Jog
Dial or select
Open
.
Leaving an application
You can leave an application in two ways:
Close it by selecting any of the back keys.
All data will be saved.
Leave it open, then switch to another
application using Task Manager (see Task
Manager
 on page 10)
. When you switch
back to the first application, you will
return to the view you were in when
leaving it.
Closing an application
From the home view of the application, tap
 or press the back button.
Task Manager
Task Manager allows you to switch between
applications. Leaving an application using
Task Manager, rather than closing it, lets you
return to the same view when you switch back
to the application. This is useful, for example,
when cutting and pasting text from one
application to another. To open Task Manager,
tap
on the status bar or select
More > Task
Manager
.
In the
Recent
tab, you can switch to recently
used applications or open a new application
from within
Main menu
. To switch to an
application in the list, tap or highlight it, then
select
Switch
.
Advanced features are available in the
Open

tab. This tab contains a list of all running
applications, as well as those that are closed,
but still in memory. Highlight an application,
then select
End
 to exit the application
completely and free up all the memory used by
it. Using the Task Manager menu, you can sort
the listed applications by time, size, or name.
Dual Function Keyboard
Each key has two characters located at the
lower part of the key. Access them by pressing
the left or right side of the key. Use
 to
access the characters or symbols at the top of
the key (for example, numbers 1-9).
General functionality
In addition to entering text, some of the
keyboard functionality applies when using
particular applications. To learn about
