Serial ATA (SATA)
The SoC has one integrated SATA host controller that supports independent DMA
operation on up to 2 ports and supports data transfer rates of 1.5 Gb/s (150 MB/s) and
3.0 Gb/s (300 MB/s). The SATA controller contains two modes of operation—a legacy
mode using I/O space, and an AHCI mode using memory space. Software that uses
legacy mode will not have AHCI capabilities.
The SoC supports the Serial ATA Specification, Revision 2.6. The SoC also supports
several optional sections of the SATA Revision 2.0 Specifications: Extensions to Serial
ATA 1.0 Specification, Revision 1.0 (AHCI support is required for some elements).
The SATA controllers feature two sets of interface signals (ports) that can be
independently enabled or disabled (they cannot be tri-stated or driven low). Each
interface is supported by an independent DMA controller.
The SATA controllers interact with an attached mass storage device through a register
interface that is equivalent to that presented by a traditional IDE host adapter. The host
software follows existing standards and conventions when accessing the register
interface and follows standard command protocol conventions.
Note:
SATA interface transfer rates are independent of UDMA mode settings. SATA interface
transfer rates will operate at the bus’s maximum speed, regardless of the UDMA mode
reported by the SATA device or the system BIOS.
