8.6.2  TEL mode
How to receive phone calls and faxes
You have to answer all calls manually. To receive a fax document, press 
/START  and then 
:  /
: "Receive".
For AG/CX/EU
/JT/SX/TW models:
• If you do not answer the call within 10 rings, the unit will temporarily switch to fax reception. The other party
can then send a fax.

When "U.K." is selected in feature #114, this feature is not activated.
When "GERMANY" is selected in feature #114, you can set this feature to OFF (feature #319).
How to receive faxes with an extension telephone
If you have another telephone connected to the 
[EXT]
 jack or the same line (extension telephone), you can use
the extension telephone to receive faxes.
To receive fax documents using the extension telephone, make sure remote fax activation is turned ON (feature
#434) beforehand. The default setting is ON.
1.
When the extension telephone rings, lift the handset of the extension telephone.
2.
To start fax reception, press 
 (default fax activation code) firmly.
3.
Replace the handset.
8.6.3  TEL/FAX mode 
How phone calls and faxes are received
1.
The other party calls your unit.
2.
 before answering the call.
• During this time, an extension telephone will ring.
3.
The unit will answer the call and try to distinguish between fax and phone call.
4.
When it is a fax:
The unit receives the fax automatically without ringing.
When it is a phone call:
The unit will ring 3 times
. You may answer the call as a phone.

The number of rings is determined by the "TEL/FAX delayed ring count" (feature #212).

The number of rings is determined by the "Silent fax recognition ring count" (feature #436).

Callers will hear a ring back tone different from the one generated by the telephone company.
How to answer the phone call with extension telephone
• If connected to the 
[EXT]
 jack of this unit:
Lift the handset, then press 
/STOP  on the unit
to talk to the other party.
• If connected to the same telephone line as this
unit:
Lift the handset and talk to the other party.
