6-8  –  Printing on Various Media and Options
If you frequently work with media of several sizes or types, you may want to purchase
additional cassettes. Then, you can set any extra cassettes for a particular size or media
and not have to waste time readjusting media guides or swapping out media.
Optional Paper Feeder
You can add an optional paper cassette feeder to your printer to increase input for
standard paper to approximately 600 sheets. See “Installing the Optional Paper
Feeder” later in this chapter for details. Chapter 1 covers loading cassettes.
Paper Cassettes
The built-in multipurpose cassette handles media sizes up to 11.69" x 17.00" (297 mm
x 431 mm) and plain paper weights from 17 - 34 lb bond (64 - 128 g/m
2
). It supports
label, transparency, color paper, tracing paper, postcard, and envelope stocks to a stack
height of .33" (8.5 mm). For typical media weights, this equals approximately 100
sheets of plain or tracing paper; 30 sheets of labels, transparencies, or postcard stock;
or 10 (No. 4) envelopes. For more details, see “Multipurpose Cassette” in chapter 1.
The standard 250 sheet cassette handles media sizes up to 11.00" x 17.00" (279 mm x
431 mm) and plain paper weights from 17-21.7 lb bond (64 - 81.4 g/m
2
) up to a stack
height of .87" (22 mm).
The number of sheets that can be loaded in a cassette varies depending on the stock’s
thickness. Never over fill the cassette beyond its limit mark (fig. 1. 25).
Always set the cassette’s media side and end guides and the size dial when you change
media sizes. See “Standard Cassette” and “Multipurpose Cassette” in chapter 1 for
details. Also, be sure to select the paper cassette or tray chaining from your application
Print dialog box.
Loading Media
Select the standard or the multipurpose cassette as the media source using your
application’s Print dialog box. Use tray chaining to pull paper from the standard and
optional cassettes as long as both sources are loaded with and configured for the same
paper size.
Load envelopes long edge first, flap closed, face up in the multipurpose cassette to
provide a flatter address area print surface.
