ƒ BlueScale10.4 adds the following new features:

ƒ Media Lifecycle Management (see BlueScale Media Lifecycle Management on 

ƒ Hardware Health Monitoring (see BlueScale Hardware Health Monitoring on 

ƒ Auto Configuration Save (see Auto-Save Library Configuration and MLM 

ƒ The library now tracks and reports the total number of moves by category.
ƒ This release provides improved library operation and improved compatibility with 

LTO-4 tape drives.

ƒ ScanDisk automatically scans the compact flash when the library starts up. 

Caution

Starting with the BlueScale10.4.0 firmware, IBM LTO-4 tape 
drives must be using firmware version 8940 or later.

Important

If you plan to upgrade the Fibre Channel tape drives in your 
library from LTO-3 to LTO-4, read Reconfiguring Your SAN or 
HBA WWNN or WWPN Settings on page 20 for important 
information. Changes to the way a library generates the World 
Wide Node Name (WWNN) and World Wide Port Names 
(WWPN) for LTO-4 Fibre Channel drives will affect your SAN 
or HBA configurations.

Important

The IBM LTO-4 Fibre Channel drives currently shipping with 
the library are equipped two Fibre Channel ports. Read Using 
Dual-Port Fibre Channel LTO-4 Tape Drives on page 22 for 
important information. To enable and use the dual ports:

ƒ Your library must be using BlueScale10.4.0 or later 

firmware.

ƒ The LTO-4 Fibre Channel drives must be using firmware 

version 8940 or later (see Updates to the LTO-4 Drive 
Firmware on page 17). 

ƒ If an LTO-4 Fibre Channel drive is connected to a SAN using 

zoning or to an HBA using persistent binding, you may also 
need to update your SAN or HBA configuration to include 
the WWPN for Port B, as described in Step 4 on page 21.
